Disable the drawing canvas
To disable the drawing canvas which is automatically created when inserting an autoshape select Options from the Tools menu. Switch to the general tab and untick the option Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes.
Verified to work with: Word 2003
Inserting bullet points or numbering causes Word to crash
This is a result of a corrupted registry key. To fix:
- Make a backup of the registry before editing it.
- Ensuring that Word is closed (including Outlook if it's open), run regedit, and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\XX.0\Word, where 'XX' is your version of Word (e.g. Word 2003: 11, Word 2007: 12).
- Under the 'Word' key, delete or rename the 'List Gallery Presets' key.
You should now be able to reopen Word and insert bullets/numbering correctly.
